McCartney 'revisits' Beatles through music

LONDON, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Paul McCartney said at the London launch of his new CD and DVD that playing music helps him "revisit" his fallen former bandmates and late wife Linda.

McCartney said at a news conference marking the release of the live CD and DVD "Good Evening New York City" that he can get "emotional" on stage when a song reminds him of John Lennon, George Harrison or Linda McCartney, the BBC reported Thursday.

"If I'm doing songs by The Beatles, I obviously remember the sessions when we recorded," the musician said. "There's a song I do called 'Here Today' which is specifically written for John, and that sometimes catches me out."

The former Beatle said he can be seen getting a little choked up playing "Here Today" on the DVD.

"It catches me out in this film version where I realize I'm telling this man that I love him, and it's like, 'Oh my God!' It's like I'm publicly declaring this in front of all these people I know well. What am I doing?" he said. "I couldn't have done it when I was 18 because I would not have allowed myself to cry or go anywhere near that as an 18-year-old guy -- now it's okay. I'm used to it."

Susan Boyle cries after 'Today' appearance

NEW YORK, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Scottish singer Susan Boyle appeared emotionally overwhelmed after singing on NBC's "Today" show and was comforted by an aide, video of the singer showed.

The singer -- who had just performed "I Dreamed a Dream" from "Les Miserables" and the sentimental love song "Cry Me a River" on the morning TV talk show before a live audience at New York's Rockefeller Center -- appeared to cry after receiving a hand-stitched quilt made by hundreds of fans from around the world.

She went to a cafe overlooking Rockefeller Center's famous ice-skating rink and cried, putting her head in her hands, the video showed.

Moments later, apparently realizing her fans were watching, she composed herself and performed a little dance, Britain's Daily Telegraph reported.

"She was just overjoyed and extremely touched with the reception she has had from everyone in America," a spokeswoman for the star said.

A source told The Daily Mirror the demands of Boyle's U.S. tour "would put anyone under enormous pressure."

"Everyone around her is acutely aware how susceptible she is to becoming emotional when under stress," the source said.

Boyle, 48, came to global public attention in April as a contestant on "Britain's Got Talent." Her first album, "I Dreamed a Dream," released Monday, has sold an estimated 700,000 copies so far, making it the biggest and fastest-selling release this year, after being the most pre-ordered album worldwide of all time.

A one-hour documentary, "I Dreamed a Dream: The Susan Boyle Story," produced by British TV personality and artists-and-repertoire executive Simon Cowell, will air on the TV Guide Network Dec. 13.
