GRAPEVINE, Texas, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- A convention center in Grapevine, Texas, will display a new attraction filled with ice sculptures based on "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," organizers said.
The Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram said Sunday that 40 professional sculptors, including craftsman Yan Fei Xu, carved "Grinch" characters out of ice for the upcoming attraction at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center.
"This year is very bright, very colorful," International Special Attractions Ltd. project manager Liang Bai, whose firm promotes Chinese artisans in the United States, said of the display.
The fifth annual ICE! attraction recreates the fictional town of Whoville from the Dr. Seuss children's book, complete with the work's title character and his mountain cave.
To build the entire display, which will officially open Thursday, a total of 2 million pounds of ice was used sculptors spent a month forming ice blocks into the book's beloved characters.
The Star-Telegram said in addition to the "Grinch" attraction, which will run until Jan. 3, the convention center will offer Lone Star Christmas complete with a life-size gingerbread house, a Christmas tree and 1.5 million holiday lights.
