Suspended sentence in Oshio drug case

TOKYO, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- A Tokyo judge Monday sentenced Japanese actor and singer Manabu Oshio to a suspended prison term for using the drug Ecstasy.

Oshio, 31, pleaded guilty to the charge last August.

The Kyodo News said he was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for five years.

Oshio could face other charges, however, as police are still investigating the death of a 30-year-old woman with whom he took the drug at a Tokyo apartment, the Kyodo news agency reported.

Kaori Tanaka reportedly fell unconscious after taking the drug, then died. Oshio allegedly did not call an ambulance to help her and she didn't receive medical attention until Oshio's manager arrived at the apartment several hours later.

Elton John still sick with the flu

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Several North American dates on The Elton John/Billy Joel Face 2 Face concert tour are being rescheduled as John continues to battle the flu, promoters said.

"Promoter Live Nation, The Key Arena and The Rose Garden were informed by management that Elton has been advised by his doctor to postpone these performances due to a serious case of E.coli bacterial infection and influenza," a message on John's Web site said.

Organizers of the concerts are working to establish new dates.

All patrons who have purchased tickets for the Face 2 Face concerts Wednesday and Saturday at the Key Arena in Seattle, and for Nov. 10 at Rose Garden Arena in Portland are being asked to hold their tickets until more information is available regarding the proposed rescheduled engagement, the message on the Web site said.

John was forced to cancel several dates late last month in England due to his illness.
