Man arrested for Leona Lewis slap flap

LONDON, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- A 29-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assaulting singer Leona Lewis as she signed copies of her new book at a London shop Wednesday, police said.

Witnesses told the BBC someone slapped Lewis in the face and punched the recording artist inside the Waterstone's Piccadilly Circus book store as fans waited to meet her and have her autograph their copies of her autobiography, "Dreams."

"Leona was the victim of an unprovoked attack," the singer's publicist confirmed to TMZ. "The police were called immediately and medical attention has been sought. Leona is understandably shaken and apologizes to the fans she was unable to meet and complete signings."

Police told the entertainment news Web site a man was arrested for suspicion of assault.

No motive for the alleged attack was mentioned in the report, however.

People.com said Lewis canceled a planned appearance on BBC's "The One Show" Wednesday night following the incident.

Polanski finishing up 'The Ghost' in jail

ZURICH, Switzerland, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Roman Polanski's friend says the French-born filmmaker is finishing up his latest movie from the Swiss prison where he has been held for nearly three weeks.

Polanski, 76, was arrested Sept. 26 in Zurich on an outstanding U.S. warrant in connection with a 1977 child-sex case.

The famous movie director, who lives in France, has not traveled to the United States since he pleaded guilty in a Los Angeles court to having unlawful sex with a minor and then fled the country before he could be sentenced. He was accused of drugging and raping Samantha Geimer when she was 13.

Polanski's lawyers have alleged misconduct on the part of the Los Angeles criminal justice system at the time of the plea deal. They are fighting extradition from Switzerland to the United States.

Robert Harris, Polanski's longtime friend and author of the screenplay for the director's upcoming film "The Ghost," said Tuesday at The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival that Polanski is still making decisions regarding the movie, including its score, so the film should premiere as planned this February at the Berlin Film Festival.

He can make his wishes known from his cell. I don't think he can make phone calls, but he can communicate. What people think of the film is another matter," The Times of London quoted Harris as saying. "Whether the film can rise above the circumstances in which the director now finds himself I don't know. We will test to the upper limits the notion that there's no such thing as bad publicity."

"The Ghost" stars Irish actor Pierce Brosnan as a British prime minister accused of war crimes on the day of his arrest, The Times said.

'Report: 'Jon & Kate' to end next month

NEW YORK, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- The U.S. reality television series "Jon & Kate Plus 8" is to end next month, sources told the New York Post.

The show follows the lives of Jon and Kate Gosselin and their eight children.

The couple announced during the summer they planned to divorce after nearly 10 years of marriage. Jon Gosselin recently blocked TLC, the network that airs the show, from taping at the family's home in Pennsylvania, claiming the process had become detrimental to his children.

Sources told the Post that TLC is trying to cobble together a few more episodes of the series from existing footage after which it will air a finale.

People.com said neither Jon nor Kate has commented on the report that the show is wrapping up in the next few weeks.

'Glee' stage tour in the works

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- The creator of "Glee" says a stage tour based on the U.S. music-themed television series is in the works.

The Fox show is about the lovable misfit members of a fictional high school glee club in Ohio. Each episode features the vocal group singing new versions of pop hits, many of which have become recent hot sellers in real life on iTunes.

TVGuide.com quoted executive producer Ryan Murphy as saying the show is expected to hit the road next summer after the Season 1 finale.

"We're going to do what 'American Idol' has done and put the kids on the road," Murphy told the New York Post. "It all equals revenue streams for Fox."
