ME says DJ AM's death was accidental
NEW YORK, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- The New York Medical Examiner's office says the death of celebrity disc jockey Adam Goldstein last month has been declared an accidental drug overdose.
Goldstein, who was known professionally as DJ AM, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment at the age of 36.
The recovering drug addict reportedly suffered a lapse after years of sobriety when he took painkillers to ease his suffering following a 2008 plane crash that left him and his musician friend, Travis Barker, seriously injured and four others dead.
ME spokeswoman Ellen Borakove told Usmagazine.com the cause of Goldstein's death was "accute intoxication" due to the combined effects of cocaine, Oxycontin, Vicodin, Ativan, Klonopin, Xanax, Benadryl and Levamisole, a substance commonly used by drug dealers to cut cocaine.
Lawyer: Polanski fighting extradition
ZURICH, Switzerland, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Roman Polanski's French lawyer says the filmmaker is fighting extradition to the United States to face charges in a 1977 child sex case.
Polanski, 76, was arrested in Switzerland during the weekend after U.S. authorities asked Swiss police to execute a warrant in the Oscar winner's decades-old rape case.
The famous film director, who was born in and lives in France, has not traveled to the United States since he pleaded guilty in a Los Angeles court to having unlawful sex with a minor in 1977 and then fled the country before he could be sentenced. He was accused of drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl.
The Hollywood Reporter quoted attorney Herve Temime as saying the first step is to try to convince Swiss authorities to release Polanski.
"After that, his defense team will demonstrate the illegal nature of the extradition request he is facing," Temime said in a statement.
"He is in a fighting mood and determined to defend himself," Temime separately told France Info radio.
Gibson seeks to have DUI expunged
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Mel Gibson's lawyer has filed papers in California indicating she plans to formally ask a judge to remove a drunken driving arrest from the actor's record.
TMZ said Gibson's lawyer, Blair Berk, is set to go to court next week and make the request based on the fact Gibson has successfully completed all the terms of his three-year probation.
The "Braveheart" actor-director and "Lethal Weapon" star made headlines when he was arrested in Malibu in July 2006 and made anti-Semitic remarks to a police officer.
Jon to play smaller role on 'Kate Plus 8'
NEW YORK, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- "Jon & Kate Plus 8," the U.S. reality series in which the parent stars are divorcing, will become "Kate Plus 8" in November, TLC announced Tuesday.
"The program will continue to capture the incredible lives of the eight Gosselin children and their family, but will now include a deeper focus on Kate's role in the family and her journey as a single mother building the next chapter in her life," the network said in a release. "TLC will continue its exclusive relationship with Jon Gosselin and he will continue to appear on the show, but on a less regular basis."
"Given the recent changes in the family dynamics, it only makes sense for us to refresh and recalibrate the program to keep pace with the family. The family has evolved and we are attempting to evolve with it; we feel that Kate's journey really resonates with our viewers. Additionally the network is in development on a Kate project for 2010," Eileen O'Neill, TLC's president and general manager, said in a statement.
Kate Gosselin said on her Facebook page Monday that "Jon & Kate Plus 8" may not be renewed for a sixth season because of plunging ratings.
Gosselin and her husband Jon became media sensations as the stars of their own show about raising twins and sextuplets.
However, the spotlight reportedly put a strain on the couple's marriage and they recently announced plans to divorce. Jon's subsequent dates and trips to nightclubs have been well-documented by the media.
"With ratings falling, this might be the last season of 'Jon & Kate Plus 8.' I'm not sure yet," the New York Post said Gosselin wrote in a Facebook message.
The Post also noted Gosselin recently taped a pilot for a talk show with Food Network star Paula Deen, so she may continue her television career even if "Jon & Kate" isn't renewed.
