KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- U.S. singer Beyonce has rescheduled a concert in Malaysia two years after she canceled what was to be her first show there.
Organizers cited scheduling conflicts as the reason the 2007 date was canceled, but sources at the time said it was really because she didn't want to adhere to the country's strict dress code.
The recording artist said on her Web site she plans to perform in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur, next month as part of her world tour.
The BBC said Islamic groups are already voicing their opposition to the concert, since female performers must dress conservatively in Malaysia.
Beyonce is known for her glitzy stage costumes.
"We are against Western sexy performances. We don't think our people need that," Sabki Yusof, youth leader of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, told the British broadcaster.
