Travolta to testify in extortion case

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Film star John Travolta is expected to testify at the Bahamian trial of two people who allegedly attempted to extort $25 million from his family.

The case concerns Travolta's 16-year-old son, Jett, who died after a massive seizure in his family's vacation home in the Bahamas in January.

Tarino Lightbourn, the paramedic who tried to revive Jett after Travolta called for help, and Pleasant Bridgewater, a former Bahamian senator, have pleaded innocent to charges they conspired to sell Travolta a document detailing Jett's emergency care the day he died. They allegedly threatened to make the paper public if he didn't pay them.

Although Travolta and his wife, actress Kelly Preston, have kept a low profile since the loss of their son, TMZ said the actor is set to give testimony at the extortion trial, which begins in the Bahamas this week.

TMZ said Travolta is expected to talk about his interaction with the paramedic who peformed CPR on his son and to discuss his reaction to the alleged blackmail plot shortly after the teen died.
