NEW YORK, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" has surpassed "Pulp Fiction" to become the U.S. filmmaker's highest grossing film, The Weinstein Co. said.

The World War II movie starring Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz and Diane Kruger has grossed more than $108 million in North American box-office receipts since its release Aug. 21.

"Pulp Fiction," previously Tarantino's best North American performance, took in $107.9 million in its North American release.

"We have been Quentin's biggest fans since the beginning. It was extremely gratifying to see 'Inglourious Basterds' put up such huge numbers," Weinstein Co. co-owner Harvey Weinstein said in a statement. "It is a kick-ass film from a director who always keeps me and audiences on their toes."
