KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- A city official in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, says the local government has not decided whether to allow the screening of a movie about exiled activist Rebiya Kadeer.
Kaohsiung Department of Information Director Hsu Li-ming said it remained unclear whether local officials will allow "The 10 Conditions of Love" to be shown at a local film festival running from Oct. 16-29, Taiwan's Central News Agency reported Saturday.
Kadeer, a Uighur political activist, is viewed by China as a terrorist responsible for unrest in the country's Xinjiang region in July.
The 2009 ethnic unrest in the Chinese region resulted in the deaths of 197 people.
Kaohsiung City Tourism Bureau Director Lin Kung-shan said hotel operators in Kaohsiung have reported room cancellations by Chinese tourists following news of the showing of "Conditions" at the October festival.
The Central News Agency said the Chinese government unsuccessfully tried to block the documentary from Australian director Jeff Daniels from screening at this year's Melbourne Film Festival in Australia.
