SANTA CLARITA, Calif., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Redmond O'Neal pleaded no contest Friday to bringing heroin into a California jail and will spend at least one year in a residential rehabilitation program.
O'Neal, 24, son of Ryan O'Neal and the late Farrah Fawcett, entered his plea in a court in Santa Clarita, Calif. He is expected to be transferred from the Pitchess Detention Center. where he was serving time for a probation violation. to the Impact Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center in Pasadena, Calif., People magazine reported on its Web site.
The sentenced meted out by Superior Court Judge Graciela Freixes provides for three years of formal probation and if O'Neal messes up in any way he could wind up in prison for up to six years, People said.
O'Neal and a friend were visiting the Pitchess facility last April when sheriff's deputies searched his car and found heroin. O'Neal admitted at the time the drugs were his.
