NEW YORK, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Hollywood actor Patrick Swayze, who died this week of pancreatic cancer, describes his life as "an amazing ride" in a soon-to-be-published memoir.
Swayze, 57, was best known for his roles in the movies "The Outsiders," "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost." His most recent acting job was starring in the TV drama series "The Beast," which he shot while undergoing treatment for his disease.
The actor reflects on his career, his 34-year marriage to Lisa Niemi and his battle with cancer in "The Time of My Life," the memoir he co-wrote with Niemi, which is due for release Sept. 29.
"I had been excited about the upswing my life was on," the New York Daily News quoted Swayze as saying in the book. "Now it all seemed like a cruel joke... I couldn't be dying -- I had too much to live for!"
The actor said his illness prompted him to take a good look at how he spent the years he was given.
"I began thinking to myself, I've had more lifetimes than any 10 people put together, and it's been an amazing ride," he wrote.
