VENICE, Italy, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Director Samuel Moaz said he dedicated his win at Italy's Venice film festival for his war movie "Lebanon" to the world's troubled war veterans.

Euronews.net said while accepting the festival's Golden Lion award for best picture Saturday, Moaz spoke briefly about his own experiences and fallout from the 1982 Lebanon War.

"I dedicate this award to all the thousands of people around the world who come back from the war, like me, safe and sound but inside the memory will remain stabbed in their souls," Moaz said.

Meanwhile, festival judges honored Colin Firth with a best actor award for his portrayal of a homosexual man in "A Single Man."

"To be here with this gift on my hand it's the biggest honor of my life," Firth said of the cinematic honor.

Euronews.net said Ksenia Rappoport earned best actress honors for playing an emigrant hotel worker in the drama "La Doppia Ora."

"I feel like I'm flying with a parachute and I am unable to land," the Russian actress said while accepting her Venice film festival honor.
