NEW YORK, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Britney Spears won the MTV Video Music Award for best pop video Sunday night for her song "Womanizer."

The singer was unable to accept the prize in person, however, because she is touring.

"This is so freaking cool!" Spears, surrounded by backup dancers, said via satellite on the VMA broadcast. "Thank you so much. We're so sorry we couldn't be there tonight. I'm on tour, as you can see, but this means so much to me. And thank you. Thank you, thank you!"

Her dancers then cheered for her and chanted, "Go, Britney!"

Spears's lackluster performance at the 2007 VMA show, which occurred at a low point in the singer's personal life, was widely ridiculed.

However, she appeared in a comedic segment at last year's VMA presentation and has since enjoyed a successful comeback concert tour.

Earlier Sunday night, Green Day won the VMA for best rock video for its clip "21 Guns."
