NEW YORK, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art is displaying "The Milkmaid," a painting it borrowed from Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum, along with its own Vermeer works.
The portrait by the 17th century Dutch master hasn't been on display in the United States since the 1939 World's Fair.
The New York Post said the painting will be showcased along with three reproductions and five of the Met's own Vermeer paintings, including "Study of a Young Woman," through Nov. 29.
Also spotlighted are a chronological display of all 36 known paintings by Vermeer, as well as paintings and works on paper by other Dutch masters, the Post noted.
