Ex-Bunnymen musician killed

KIRK MICHAEL, Isle of Man, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Borneo-born British musician Jake Brockman, known for his years with the rock band Echo and the Bunnymen, was killed in a motorbike crash on the Isle of Man.

Brockman, a Bristol resident who also had been part of the dance band BOM, worked as a sound recordist for the BBC's natural history unit on several projects, the British broadcaster said.

The 53-year-old former keyboard player for the Bunnymen sustained fatal injuries when his bike collided with a converted ambulance near Kirk Michael Tuesday, the BBC reported. Police said the wreck was under investigation.

Coincidentally, the band's first drummer, Pete De Freitas, was killed in a similar crash in 1989.

"Jake was always a classic bike enthusiast. He loved sailing though he was invariably seasick," his family and wife Sally Mundy said in a statement. "Music was central to Jake's life."
