LONDON, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- The Rolling Stones are denying an Internet rumor that claims longtime drummer Charlie Watts has quit the iconic British rock 'n' roll band.

"Contrary to a fabricated story that ran this morning on a small music Web site in Australia, drummer Charlie Watts has not left The Rolling Stones," NME.com quoted the band as saying in a statement Wednesday.

Watts, 68, has been a member of the Stones since 1963.
