NEW YORK, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Former New York Mayor and Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani has agreed to be a guest on the Sept. 11 edition of TV's "The View," ABC said Monday.

Giuliani's visit to the daytime talk show will coincide with the eighth anniversary of the terrorist strike on New York and Washington that killed an estimated 3,000 people.

Giuliani was wrapping up his second term as mayor at the time of the attacks. Images of him as a reassuring figure after the destruction of the World Trade Center played a central role in his 2008 bid for the Republican presidential nomination, which was eventually won by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

"The View" will begin its 13th season Sept. 8.
