Judge: 'Extract' offers boss view of work

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- U.S. director Mike Judge says his new film "Extract" approaches work from a boss's point of view compared with the employee viewpoint in "Office Space."

The 46-year-old director, whose other works include "Idiocracy" and "Beavis and Butt-head," said he started writing "Extract" after he completed "Office Space," which met with limited success in 1999 before becoming a cult hit, the New York Post said Sunday.

"I kind of feel like 'Office Space' was from the point of view (of) and sympathetic to the employee, and this one is from the point of view of the boss," Judge said.

Judge said "Extract," which is due for release on Friday, also has comparable work settings with "Office" despite the new film's focus on an extract factory.

"I also feel like factories and blue-collar-type places have their own unique set of characters in the same way cubicles do," he told the Post.
