LOS ANGELES, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Adam Goldstein, a celebrity disc jockey known as DJ AM, was found dead in his New York apartment Friday, Usmagazine.com reported. He was 36.
Usmagazine.com did not say how Goldstein died, but noted he has a history of depression and drug addiction.
TMZ cited unnamed sources as saying prescription pill bottles and a pipe commonly used to smoke drugs were found near his body Friday afternoon.
Goldstein, the ex-boyfriend of starlets Nicole Richie and Mandy Moore, had worked as a disc jockey at some of Hollywood's most exclusive parties.
His body was discovered by firefighters after a concerned friend notified police after being unable to get in touch with Goldstein, TMZ said.
Goldstein and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker survived a plane crash that killed four others last year.
Sources told the entertainment news Web site Goldstein was sober for about nine years but had been suffering from post-traumatic stress related to the crash and was recently dumped by a girlfriend.
