DJ AM found dead in NY at the age of 36

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Adam Goldstein, a celebrity disc jockey known as DJ AM, was found dead in his New York apartment Friday, reported. He was 36. did not say how Goldstein died, but noted he has a history of depression and drug addiction.

TMZ cited unnamed sources as saying prescription pill bottles and a pipe commonly used to smoke drugs were found near his body Friday afternoon.

Goldstein, the ex-boyfriend of starlets Nicole Richie and Mandy Moore, had worked as a disc jockey at some of Hollywood's most exclusive parties.

His body was discovered by firefighters after a concerned friend notified police after being unable to get in touch with Goldstein, TMZ said.

Goldstein and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker survived a plane crash that killed four others last year.

Sources told the entertainment news Web site Goldstein was sober for about nine years but had been suffering from post-traumatic stress related to the crash and was recently dumped by a girlfriend.
