Winslet to narrate autism documentary

LONDON, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Kate Winslet has signed on to narrate the English-language version of the "The Sunshine Boy," an Icelandic documentary about autism.

Winslet, an Oscar winner and mother of two young children, has starred in the films "Sense and Sensibility," "Titanic," "Iris," "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "The Reader."

The BBC said she will lend her voice to the documentary, which was directed by Fridrik Thor Fridriksson. It is about Margret Dagmar Ericsdottir's struggle to understand her severely autistic, 11-year-old son.

"I am delighted and honored that Kate agreed to do the narration," Ericsdottir told the BBC. "Her contribution plays an instrumental role in increasing awareness for autism, which many claim is the world's fastest-growing epidemic."
