NEW YORK, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- George Clooney's publicist says the U.S. actor broke his hand when he shut a car door on it in Italy.

European media reports have claimed the 49-year-old "Ocean's 11" actor sustained the injury while tooling around the border of Italy and Switzerland on his motorcycle, People.com said.

However, Clooney's representative denied the rumors.

"There was an accident and he did break his hand," the actor's publicist Stan Rosenfield told People.com Thursday. "He was not riding a motorcycle, it was not in Switzerland ... . He was on his property in Italy and he shut the car door on his hand. ... The doctor has given him 30-40 years more to live."
