LOS ANGELES, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles County coroner's office has ruled the death of pop icon Michael Jackson was a homicide, KNBC-TV, Los Angeles, reported Monday.

The report cited a law enforcement official whose name was not reported. It came the same day as court documents unsealed in Houston indicated lethal levels of the anesthesia propofol were found during an autopsy of Jackson's body.

Jackson died June 25 of cardiac arrest at age 50.

Jackson family members issued a statement after word of the coroner's ruling saying they hope justice will be served.

"The Jackson family has full confidence in the legal process, and commends the ongoing efforts of the L.A. County Coroner, the L.A. District Attorney and the L.A. Police Department," the Jacksons told Usmagazine.com in a statement. "The family looks forward to the day that justice can be served."

The Los Angeles Times said a search warrant affidavit unsealed Monday in Houston quoted Jackson's personal doctor, Conrad Murray, as telling detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department he had been treating Jackson for insomnia with propofol and other drugs in the six weeks leading up to his death.

The Times said Murray, who is based in Houston, admitted to police he gave Jackson propofol and other sedatives on the morning of the day Jackson died.

Murray said while the pop icon was under his care he repeatedly asked him who else was treating him and what they had prescribed for him, but he claimed Jackson never gave him the specific information he requested.

Authorities reportedly are talking to several other doctors regarding Jackson's medical history, as well, as they determine whether criminal charges should be filed.
