NEW YORK, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- The upcoming Broadway production of "A Little Night Music" may feature a younger star than its previous incarnation, industry sources say.
Unidentified insiders said the forthcoming "Music" production has been auditioning actresses in their 30s, while the 1973 staging featured 50-year-old Glynis Johns as its leading lady, Playbill.com reported Friday.
The New York Post said Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, 39, is rumored to be in the running to succeed Johns in the character of stage actress Desiree Armfeldt, while Angela Lansbury is said to be in talks to play Armfeldt's mother, Madame Armfeldt.
Show representatives emphasized, however, that the casting rumors are speculative at this point and no official casting announcements have been made.
The musical is slated to open in December.
