Musician Dickinson dead at age 67

MEMPHIS, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Memphis musician Jim Dickinson, known for being a session player for singer Bob Dylan, has died at the age of 67, his wife Mary says.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal said Dickinson, who died Saturday at a Memphis hospital while recuperating from heart surgery, also worked with the Rolling Stones while enjoying a solo career and producing other influential bands.

"He had a great life. He loved his family and music. And he loved Memphis music, specifically," Dickinson's wife said of her husband, who died in his sleep of unspecified causes.

Dickinson said in a May interview his love of music began when he was a child and heard songs emanating from the radio.

"There was something about the voice coming out of the box that got me. That's where it all started," he told the Commercial Appeal in what would become his final interview.

Dickinson is survived by his wife and two sons, Cody and Luther, of the band North Mississippi Allstars.
