Madonna performs in Poland for first time

WARSAW, Poland, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. pop star Madonna never planned on visiting a concentration camp museum in Poland as part of her first performance visit to the country, sources say.

Unofficial sources said Madonna's manager, Guy O'Seary, insisted the "Like A Virgin" singer had no plans to visit the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum in Poland despite reports to the contrary, Polish Radio reported Saturday.

Meanwhile, Madonna's first concert in Poland drew nearly 80,000 fans to Bemowo airport in Warsaw.

Polish Radio said Saturday's concert was part of the "True Blue" star's Sticky & Sweet Tour.

Saturday also marked Madonna's 51st birthday and the most recent performance from a singer who has enjoyed amazing success since her 1983 hit "Holliday."

The BBC said among Madonna's more notable album during her decades in the music industry are 1986's "True Blue" and 1998's "Ray of Light."
