NEWARK, N.J., Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Shah Rukh Khan, one of Bollywood's biggest stars, said Saturday he believes he was held by security at a New York-area airport because of his Muslim name.

Khan, who recently completed a movie about a Muslim man being mistaken for a terrorist in the United States, said he was detained for two hours at Newark International Airport, the New York Daily News reported.

"I was really being hassled, perhaps because of my name being Khan," he said.

"These guys wouldn't let me through."

Khan has signed a deal with Fox Star Studios for distribution of his movie about mistaken identity, "My Name Is Khan." Last year, Newsweek listed him as one of the 50 most influential men in the world.

He believes he was a victim of racial profiling at the airport. But he said he did not make a fuss for fear of making the situation worse.
