Director Shelton back on fairway for film

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- U.S. director Ron Shelton will revisit the golfing range for the first time since "Tin Cup" with the forthcoming new golf movie "Q School."

The Hollywood Reporter said Thursday that Shelton paired with Cup" collaborator John Norville to create a script for "School," which he will direct once shooting begins next spring.

Dennis Quaid and Tim Allen were mentioned as possible stars for the new golf comedy, which will be produced by David Friendly.

The movie will focus on a group of golfers attempting to make it onto the PGA Tour while dealing with problems in their personal lives and their golfing games.

The Reporter said "Q School," a reference to the qualifying school tournament used to pick golfers for the PGA Tour, will mark the most recent sports-oriented film from Shelton.

In addition to "Cup," Shelton previously directed the basketball comedy "White Men Can't Jump," the baseball movie "Bull Durham" and the boxing story "Play It To the Bone."
