Will Smith nervous about daughter dating
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- The U.S. Postal Service is about to introduce a stamp honoring the classic TV police drama "Dragnet," officials say.
The "Dragnet" stamp will go on sale Tuesday, the postal service said. Actor-producer Jack Webb played Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Joe Friday on the series, which premiered in 1952 and ran until 1970, and helped familiarize generations of U.S. viewers with Los Angeles.
The LAPD will host the unveiling of the stamp at the Police Academy, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday. The guest list for the event includes Webb's widow, Opal; actor Harry Morgan, who played Officer Bill Gannon on the show from 1967-1970; and LAPD Chief William Bratton.
The stamp will go on sale at noon Tuesday, along with 19 other stamps being issued to honor the early days of television.
The new issues include stamps honoring "The Ed Sullivan Show", "Lassie," "The Lone Ranger," "The Tonight Show," and "The Twilight Zone," postal officials said.
