Unreleased Guthrie recordings due out

NEW YORK, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- A collection of previously unreleased recordings by Woody Guthrie coming out soon offer a rare quality, the late U.S folk music singer's daughter says.

Guthrie's daughter, Nora, said the recordings to be released Aug. 25 by Rounder Records are of such good quality she finally understood why her father, who died in 1967, is so highly regarded in the folk music industry, The Boston Globe reported Sunday.

"It was as if he was a few feet away,'' Ruth Guthrie said of the recordings.

The recordings were found inside several cardboard barrels that had been stored inside a New York apartment storage bin.

The rare recordings only came to light after their owner, an elderly woman named Irene Harris, died and left them to a neighbor in her apartment complex.

That neighbor, Lucia Sutera, said Harris mentioned prior to her 1999 death that unreleased Guthrie recordings were among the items stored in her storage bin.

The Globe said following restoration and cataloguing, the recordings came together to form the forthcoming four-CD set titled "My Dusty Road."
