NEW YORK, July 27 (UPI) -- U.S. reality TV star Jon Gosselin told one media outlet he is now single and another he is in a relationship with former Star reporter Kate Major.

Jon Gosselin -- who recently split with Kate Gosselin, his wife and "Jon & Kate Plus 8" co-star -- reportedly took a romantic vacation to Saint-Tropez with family friend Hailey Glassman, then was photographed enjoying apparent dinner dates with journalist Kate Major.

"At this point ... I'm single -- per se," the father of eight young children told People magazine Saturday. "I'm just a regular guy who just wants to have friendship and good times. And I like meeting people."

Asked about Glassman, Gosselin replied: "She's always a good friend of mine. Her family is so good. They took me in and I lived there for a while. I love them to death. ... She doesn't like this (media firestorm) She loves me for who I am and not for what I do. ... We are going to chill out for a while and see where it takes us. I'm not looking for anyone."

However, E! News quoted Gosselin as confirming in an exclusive statement that he and Major are in a relationship.

"I care about Kate Major; she resigned from her job for me. Right now, my focus is on my relationship with my kids. My personal relationship is private," he said.

E! News said Major declined to comment on its story.
