Sales limited at Comic-Con in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, July 25 (UPI) -- Sales people at Comic-Con International say visitors to the 2009 rendition of the San Diego convention are spending on a budget this year.

Frank Kozik, who has sold items at Comic-Con for five years, said the early portion of the July 23-26 convention at the San Diego Convention Center have seen a significant drop in sales compared with previous years, Variety reported Friday.

"Instead of buying everything in sight, people this year have lists and a budget. I have never seen that before at Comic-Con," Kozik said.

Glenn Pogue of the San Francisco company Super 7 said his company expected the 2009 Comic-Con to face a sales crunch.

"For the few days so far, we are hitting our numbers. But we did not expect that to be the case," he told Variety. "We were bracing for a Comic-Con that was a lot lighter in sales."

Comic-Con visitor Joe Ries said convention sales people offering exclusive products will likely benefit this year.

"People don't want the everyday stuff, but the high-end collectibles or exclusives," Ries said.
