NEW YORK, July 23 (UPI) -- Comedy Central says production has begun on "The Drawn Together Movie: The Movie," the big-screen adaptation of its U.S. animated "reality" series.
The show featured cartoon characters from different time periods, drawn in different styles and living together as part of a mock reality show.
A panel with the show and movie's creators, writers and executive producers Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser, and stars Cree Summer, James Arnold Taylor, Abbey McBride, Jess Harnell and Tara Strong, is slated to take place at Comic-Con in San Diego Thursday night.
Comedy Central said the film, which it described as the "most reprehensible and most guilty-pleasure movie of all time," is scheduled to be released by Comedy Central Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment next March.
"'Drawn Together's' reunion with Comedy Central is like marrying an old ex-girlfriend," Silverstein and Jeser said in a joint statement. "I mean, are we doing this because we love each other and are destined to be together? Or is it because neither one of us could do any better? As is often the case, it's probably both."
"Matt and Dave are a creatively talented duo with a twisted sensibility that is completely uninhibited and admirable," added Lauren Corrao, Comedy Central's president of original programming and development. "Without the constraints of producing for basic cable, this movie will showcase their chops the way fans of the show have been waiting for."
