LOS ANGELES, July 20 (UPI) -- U.S. singer Nick Lachey dismisses as "fun storytelling" rumors he and his ex-wife may reconcile after having broken up with their respective significant others.

Jessica Simpson recently split with her longtime professional football player beau, Tony Romo, and Lachey broke up with his television presenter girlfriend, Vanessa Minnillo.

Simpson and Lachey were married from 2002 to 2005, and co-starred in the reality TV series "Newlyweds."

"I think it's fun storytelling, but there's very little truth to any of it," Lachey told People magazine regarding stories about a possible reunion.

"I certainly have heard about her breakup and I wish her the best, as I've always done. Aside from that, there really is nothing to say," he explained. "I haven't talked to her in probably two years. I wish her happiness. That's where it pretty much ends."
