NEW YORK, July 20 (UPI) -- Actress and comedienne Ana Gasteyer has joined the cast of the new Broadway production of "The Royal Family," the Manhattan Theatre Club said Monday.

Gasteyer will play Kitty Dean in the upcoming revival of the New York-set comedy by George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber. She previously appeared in MTC's acclaimed 2003 production of David Lindsay-Abaire's "Kimberly Akimbo." Her Broadway theater credits include "The Threepenny Opera" and "Wicked." She is most recognizable to television audiences for her six seasons on "Saturday Night Live."

The production of "The Royal Family" will be headed up Tony Award winner Doug Hughes, who directed "Maritius" and "Doubt."

The "Royal" cast includes Stephen Collins, John Glover, Rosemary Harris, Jan Maxwell, Tony Roberts and Reg Rogers.

The show is scheduled to begin previews Sept. 15 and to open Oct. 8 at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in Manhattan.

"This devilishly funny play follows the Cavendishes, the famous family of stage stars, as they go about the drama of the day: choosing scripts, dashing off to a performance, and stealing kisses with handsome beaus. But what's this business about the younger Miss Cavendish wanting to quit the stage for domestic bliss? Never, darling!" show notes explained.
