Madonna concert set collapses, kills 1

MARSEILLE, France, July 16 (UPI) -- A part of the set used in Madonna's stage show collapsed Thursday during construction in France, killing one person and injuring seven others, police said.

"I am devastated to have just received this tragic news," the U.S. pop star said through her spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg in a statement issued to People.com Thursday. "My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news."

People.com said police and fire officials have closed the Velodrome Stadium in Marseille while they try to free people still trapped by the wreckage.
