'Gardens,' 'Storm' rack up Emmy nods

LOS ANGELES, July 16 (UPI) -- HBO's fact-based movies "Grey Gardens" and "Into the Storm" each picked up more than a dozen Emmy Award nominations in Los Angeles Thursday.

"Gardens," the story of two of Jackie Kennedy Onassis's eccentric female relatives, earned 17 Emmy nods, while the Winston Churchill bio-pic "Storm" garnered 14.

The projects will compete with "Coco Chanel," "Prayers for Bobby" and "Taking Chance" for the outstanding made-for-television movie Emmy.

"Generation Kill" and "Little Dorrit" were mentioned for outstanding miniseries.

Nominated for outstanding lead actor in a miniseries or movie is Kevin Kline for "Cyrano de Bergerac," Brendan Gleeson for "Into the Storm," Ian McKellen for "King Lear," Kevin Bacon for "Taking Chance," Kiefer Sutherland for "24: Redemption" and Kenneth Branagh for "Wallander: One Step Behind."

Vying for the outstanding lead actress in a miniseries or movie title are Chandra Wilson from "Accidental Friendship," Shirley MacLaine from "Coco Chanel," Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange from "Grey Gardens" and Sigourney Weaver from "Prayers for Bobby."

Up for supporting actor are Ken Howard of "Grey Gardens," Len Cariou of "Into the Storm," Bob Newhart of "The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice," and Tom Courtenay and Andy Serkis of "Little Dorrit."

The nominees for supporting actress are Marcia Gay Harden for "The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler," Jeanne Tripplehorn for "Grey Gardens," Shohreh Aghdashloo for "House of Saddam," Janet McTeer for "Into the Storm" and Cicely Tyson for "Relative Stranger."
