NEWARK, N.J., July 15 (UPI) -- Stand-up comedian Artie Lange has pleaded innocent in a New Jersey court to a charge of driving under the influence.

E! News reported Lange, best known for his appearances on "The Howard Stern Show" and "MADtv," was arrested last Friday after allegedly rear-ending another car.

Toms River Police Capt. Steve Henry told the Asbury Park Press there was no indication Lange was "under the influence of illicit drugs" at the time of the incident.

The comedian has denied he was drunk or had taken anything other than a prescribed antidepressant when he was arrested. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 26, E! said.

Lange reportedly sought treatment last year for an alleged long-term addiction to drugs.
