LOS ANGELES, July 12 (UPI) -- "Bruno" opened at No. 1 in U.S. theaters this weekend, edging out "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," Box Office Mojo said Sunday.
"Bruno," with Sacha Baron Cohen in the title role of the flamboyant Austrian fashionista, took in about $30.43 million in its first weekend in 2,756 theaters. "Ice Age" tallied $28.5 million in 4,102 theaters for a two-week total of $120.57 million.
"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," which had been in a virtual first-place tie with "Ice Age" last weekend, was No. 3 at $24.2 million for a three-week total of $339.21 million.
"Public Enemies" was No. 4 at $14.11 million, followed by "The Proposal" at No. 5 with $10.51 million and "The Hangover" at $9.93 million at No. 6.
Another new movie, "I Love You Beth Cooper," debuted at No. 7 with $5 million in estimated gate receipts. The romantic comedy stars Hayden Panettiere and Paul Rust.
The rest of the top 10 includes "Up" at $4.66 million, "My Sister's Keeper at $4.18 million and "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" at $1.6 million.
Dropping out this week were "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" and "Year One."
