Jacko doc denies over-prescribing drugs
LOS ANGELES, July 9 (UPI) -- Dr. Arnold Klein of Los Angeles denies over-prescribing drugs to Michael Jackson, but doesn't quite deny he is the real father of Jackson's children.
"I didn't give him this crap they are talking about," Klein told Good Morning America. He said he never prescribed Oxycontin to anyone.
The professor of dermatology and medicine at UCLA Medical School said he is not one of five doctors allegedly being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department for their alleged role in Jackson's prescriptions, People magazine reported. Klein was Jackson's long-term dermatologist.
As to the question of whether he is the real father of Prince Michael, 12, Paris Katherine, 11, and Prince Michael II (Blanket), 7, Klein said, "All I can tell you is, to the best of my knowledge, I am not the father of these children; I can't answer it any other way. I don't want to feed any of this insanity going around."
Polanski seeks to have sex case dismissed
WARSAW, Poland, July 9 (UPI) -- Director Roman Polanski has appealed a May ruling in which a judge refused to dismiss a 32-year-old sex-abuse case.
Polanski had based the May request on what he called unethical and improper acts by a judge and prosecutor at the time of his original case in 1977, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Los Angeles Superior Judge Peter Espinoza has acknowledged "substantial" misconduct but said he was forced to deny Polanski's request because the Oscar-winning director did not show up for court in person.
Polanski's lawyers say he will not return to the United States from France.
He pleaded guilty in 1977 to unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl in a deal in which prosecutors agreed not to pursue rape, sodomy and other charges.
He then fled the country before he could be sentenced and has not returned to the United States since.
Jackson albums selling big in U.S.
LOS ANGELES, July 9 (UPI) -- The two top-selling albums in the United States this past week were "Number Ones" and "Thriller" by the late Michael Jackson, Billboard.com said.
Jackson died last month of cardiac arrest following a suspected prescription drug overdose. He was 50.
Billboard.com reported Wednesday Jackson's albums occupied the top 10 positions on the week's Catalog Album Chart, marking the first time a single artist has done so.
There reportedly were more than 336,000 Jackson ring tone purchases this week, as well.
During the past two weeks, there also have been more than 5.6 million digital Jackson tracks bought in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, the music magazine said on its Web site.
Entertainment Weekly said a total of 800,000 Jackson albums, including 339,000 copies of "Number Ones" and 187,000 copies of "Thriller," were sold in the United States during the past week.
Despite the staggering sales numbers, the albums did not make the Billboard 200 because they were previous releases.
The No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 is the compilation CD "NOW That's What I Call Music! 31," followed by Brad Paisley's "American Saturday Night" at No. 2, Rob Thomas' "Cradlesong" at No. 3, Wilco's self-titled album at No. 4 and the Black Eyed Peas's "The E.N.D." at No. 5.
Rounding out the top tier are Jeremih's eponymous debut at No. 6, Killswitch Engage's self-titled CD at No. 7, the Jonas Brothers' "Lines, Vines and Trying Times" at No. 8, Eminem's "Relapse" at No. 9 and Lady Gaga's "The Fame" at No. 10.
Furlong and Bella to divorce
LOS ANGELES, July 9 (UPI) -- Acting couple Edward Furlong and Rachael Bella are planning to divorce, California court papers show.
People.com said documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court this week indicate the couple are seeking to end their marriage after about three years.
Bella cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, the magazine's Web site said.
Furlong and Bella, who were co-stars in the film "Jimmy and Judy," are the parents of Ethan, 2.
