LOS ANGELES, July 9 (UPI) -- "Spider-Man" star Tobey Maguire has signed up for a role in the independent film "The Details," which is set to start production in Seattle next month.

Variety.com said Maguire agreed to take a part in the black comedy written and to be directed by Jacob Estes after Scottish actor James McAvoy had to drop out of the project because of a scheduling conflict.

Elizabeth Banks was previously cast in the movie about a struggling married couple whose battle against the pesky raccoons burrowing under the sod in their backyard leads to a murder by bow and arrow, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

Also slated to appear in the film are Ray Liotta, Dennis Haysbert, Anna Friel and Laura Linney.

"Maguire's character is an everyman in the sense that he is composed of a morally ambiguous core," Estes told Variety.com. "He has good intentions, but he makes a lot of self-destructive mistakes."
