LOS ANGELES, July 9 (UPI) -- U.S. singer Janet Jackson attempted an intervention because she was worried about her pop star brother Michael's apparent drug abuse.
Michael died last month of cardiac arrest after a suspected prescription drug overdose. He was 50.
Two sources close to the Jacksons told CNN Michael instructed security guards to keep his family out of his home after Janet rallied their relatives following a visit with her brother in 2007.
The insiders said Michael also refused to take calls from his mother, Katherine, who now has temporary custody of his three children.
"If you tried to deal with him, he would shut you out," one source told CNN. "You just wouldn't hear from him for long periods."
The family, excluding Janet, previously denied trying to stage an intervention to help Michael deal with his alleged addiction.
