LOS ANGELES, July 6 (UPI) -- The 12 contestants competing on the next edition of the U.S. reality show "Big Brother" will be divided into high-school cliques, CBS announced.

The 11th season of the series is slated to begin Thursday.

During the first episode, houseguests will be split up into the categories -- popular, athletes, brainiacs and off-beats. A mystery 13th contender is also expected to join the game, the network said in a news release.

"You may have graduated, but the truth is we never leave high school and this summer we are going to prove it," Allison Grodner, executive producer of "Big Brother," said in a statement. "From the brains to the jocks to the off-beat, everyone will be able to identify to one of these cliques, giving the viewers a group to root for and against from the very beginning. The division will cause instant drama."
