LONDON, July 6 (UPI) -- The British TV series "Robin Hood" has been canceled after three seasons due to low ratings, the BBC announced.

The show's title character, as well as his nemesis, the sheriff of Nottingham, were killed off during a showdown in the weekend's Season 3 finale.

Jonas Armstrong, the hero's portrayer had previously said he intended to leave the show after the third season so he could tackle other roles.

"With the death of Robin, we feel that the show has reached its natural conclusion," a BBC spokesman said.
