NEW YORK, July 6 (UPI) -- The producers of the new Spider-Man stage musical say Alan Cummings was selected to play villain Green Goblin and Evan Rachel Wood will be their leading lady.

They also announced technical issues have pushed back the Broadway show's opening next spring by a week, with previews starting Feb. 25.

Daily Variety reported Saturday the lead in the play, "Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark," had yet to be filled despite open auditions held this year.

Wood was nevertheless thrilled at winning the role of Mary Jane Watson. She said on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" that the play was unlike any other Spider-Man production.

Rolling Stone said she recounted working on the score with U2's Bono and The Edge.

"I got to do the workshop, sit down with them playing guitars going over the music," she said, adding that by the end of the session she was cracking jokes with the two rock stars.
