CLEVELAND, June 18 (UPI) -- Two Ohio police chiefs allegedly broke into the home of the surrogate pregnant with Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick's twins, one of them said.

Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter confirmed he and Bridgeport Chief Chad Dojack are being looked at by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation in connection with a break-in at the surrogate's Martins Ferry home, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer said Thursday. The newspaper quoted sources close to the case as saying Carpenter and Dojack set up the break-in an effort to obtain information to sell to a gossip publication.

"I'm not sure of the complete basis of the complaint myself," Carpenter told the Intelligencer/Wheeling News-Register Wednesday. "There is an allegation against me, and I'm working closely (with investigators) to resolve the situation."

The Plain Dealer said Dojack is also believed to be cooperating. Both men are expected to keep their jobs while the investigation is conducted.

"Matthew and Sarah Jessica have complete faith in the legal system," Broderick's representative said in a statement. "But because it's a criminal investigation, we will not be making any more comment. What I can say is the entire family looks forward to the healthy delivery of their daughters later on this summer."
