LOS ANGELES, June 17 (UPI) -- Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki have signed on to star in the upcoming U.S. re-make of the adventure drama "Red Dawn," MGM and United Artists said.

The Hollywood Reporter said the movie, which is about a group of American high-school students fighting for survival after their town is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers, is slated to start shooting in September.

Chris Hemsworth was previously cast in the remake.

The 1984 film starred Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Jennifer Grey, C. Thomas Howell and Lea Thompson.

The entertainment industry trade newspaper said Peck from TV's "Drake & Josh," Palicki from "Friday Night Lights" and Hemsworth from "Star Trek" will play the characters originated by Sheen, Grey and Swayze respectively.

The new version of the picture is to be released in U.S. theaters Sept. 24, 2010.
