LOS ANGELES, June 7 (UPI) -- New Line Cinema has bucked the odds and is doing well since falling under the umbrella of fellow U.S. film studio Warner Bros., an industry official says.
Independent film producer Peter Guber, who is teamed with New Line on a project, said it is rare for a smaller film studio to remain successful after being engulfed by a larger studio as New Line was in 2008, The New York Times reported Sunday.
"It's totally amazing," Guber said. "That's not been the case anywhere else; it almost never works."
Helping New Line earn nearly 50 percent of all Warner Bros. domestic box-office sales through mid-May have been the studio's remake of "Friday the 13th" and the comedy "He's Just Not That Into You."
The smaller studio's 2009 successes come after it enjoyed similar victories with Warner Bros. in 2008 with the hit "Sex and the City."
"City" ended the year just behind "The Dark Knight" as the top domestic ticket sales earner for Warner Bros., the Times said.
