Producers' strike ends in India

MUMBAI, June 5 (UPI) -- The 2-month-long strike of Bollywood's film producers against the owners of multiplexes in India has ended and a deal reached, producer Mukesh Bhatt said.

Producers demanded a 50-50 share in the profits generated by the cinemas, while theater owners argued the producers' cut should be less if a film does poorly at the box office.

Bhatt told the BBC the two parties reached an agreement at a 14-hour negotiating session that ended early Friday. He also said both sides were pleased with the outcome.

The strike prevented new films from being shown in Indian multiplexes in recent weeks. However, Bhatt said moviegoers can expect new releases starting next Friday.

"I am feeling very nice as we achieved what we had set out to achieve. I will be able to give out details on Monday, but it is equality for all in the revenue sharing," Bhatt told the BBC.
