LOS ANGELES, June 3 (UPI) -- Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures Wednesday confirmed Jason Moore will direct the musical reimagining of the 1983 Hollywood film "Valley Girl."

Amy Talkington wrote the script for the big-screen remake, which utilizes the original film's Romeo & Juliet storyline, as well as its clash between the early 1980s Los Angeles punk scene and suburban Valley culture.

The 1983 film starred Nicolas Cage and Deborah Foreman as star-crossed teen lovers Randy and Julie.

The remake will mark Moore's feature film directorial debut. He recently directed Broadway's "Shrek The Musical," which has been nominated for eight Tony Awards.
