Officer Lee Stevens of the Ocoee police department told CNN Amanda Brumfield, 29, was arrested last Friday on child neglect charges after the infant she was watching fell and subsequently died.

The news outlet said no other details were immediately available.

Thornton's publicist, Arnold Robinson, said the actor "has had no contact with (his daughter) for quite some time."

"When informed about this situation, (Thornton) commented that, 'Anytime a baby's life is lost is an unimaginable tragedy and my heart goes out to the baby's family and loved ones,'" Robinson told CNN in a written statement.

Thornton, 53, has been married and divorced five times and is the father of four children. He is best known for his Oscar-winning film "Sling Blade," which he starred in, wrote and directed.

Boyle admitted to clinic for exhaustion

LONDON, June 1 (UPI) -- "Britain's Got Talent" runner-up Susan Boyle has been admitted to a clinic and is being treated for exhaustion.

Boyle, 48, is a Scottish singer who became famous overnight when a clip of her first appearance on "Talent" became an Internet sensation seen by millions.

In recent weeks, however, media reports suggested she has been cracking under the strain of her sudden fame, yelling and cursing at paparazzi, and frequently weeping.

The Times of London said Boyle was admitted to the Priory clinic in London Sunday night, a day after coming in second to the dance group Diversity on the TV talent competition.

She reportedly was so upset by the loss she threw water on a studio floor manager and yelled, "I hate this show" backstage.

"Police were called at approximately 6 p.m. to a Central London hotel to doctors assessing a woman under the Mental Health Act," a Scotland Yard representative told The Times. "Police and ambulance attended. The woman was taken voluntarily by ambulance to a clinic. At the request of doctors, police accompanied the ambulance."

TalkbackThames, the television production company that produced the show, said in a statement issued to The Times: "Following Saturday night's show, Susan is exhausted and emotionally drained. She has been seen by her private (doctor) who supports her decision to take a few days out for rest and recovery. We offer her our ongoing support and wish her a speedy recovery."
